The streaming rights for Superstar Rajinikanth's latest movie Vettaiyan have been acquired by Amazon Prime Video. According to industry trends, the film is likely to become available for streaming after completing a four-week theatrical run.

At the moment, Vettaiyan is performing well in cinemas, both domestically and internationally.

Vettaiyan has once again highlighted the box office power of Rajinikanth’s stardom. The movie opened in theatres on Thursday to packed houses, with early morning shows starting as early as 4 AM, even outside Tamil Nadu.

Despite the low pre-release buzz, Vettaiyan posted impressive opening day numbers, with collections estimated at over Rs 70 crore. The film is expected to perform well over the extended Puja holiday weekend, despite garnering mixed reactions from critics and audiences.

While critics have appreciated director TJ Gnanavel's effort to tackle a controversial subject with Rajinikanth in the lead, many feel he falls short of delivering a compelling narrative that fully utilizes his good ideas and intentions. Gnanavel seems to struggle with balancing complex content while meeting the high expectations of Rajinikanth's fans.

"While the director's intentions are admirable—exploring complex questions of justice and power—Vettaiyan falls short in its execution. It lacks the dramatic tension and emotional depth required for a film of this scope. Good intentions, unfortunately, don’t make good movies. What Vettaiyan needed was a sharper focus, a clear antagonist, and a more profound portrayal of its hero’s transformation," read Desimartini's 2.5-star review.

Vettaiyan centres on Rajinikanth’s character, Athiyan, a legendary top cop known for his skills in tracking and eliminating criminals, earning him a reputation as 'the hunter'. However, Amitabh Bachchan’s character, Justice Dr. Sathyadev, views him with contempt for failing to grasp the injustice perpetuated through his violent methods. This sets up an intriguing premise where the protagonist remains unaware of the flaws in his beliefs.
