Rajinikanth, and Fahadh Faasil in Vettaiyan
A deleted scene from Superstar Rajinikanth's latest movie Vettaiyan was released on Tuesday. The clip highlights the strong bond shared between Rajinikanth's Athiyan and Fahadh Faasil's character, Patrick, also known as Battery.
If you haven’t seen Vettaiyan yet, here’s some background: Athiyan is a top cop working in Kanyakumari district, while Patrick is a thief who uses modern technology to steal money with ease. Recognizing Patrick's skills and the goodness in his personality, Athiyan enlists him to use his cunning talents to aid in police investigations.
In the deleted scene, the camaraderie between Athiyan and Patrick is on full display. After successfully completing a mission, Athiyan asks Patrick to leave town and work under a different cop for some time. However, Patrick humorously refuses, saying he doesn't work for the police department, but only for Athiyan. This moment takes a meta turn as the two actors step out of their characters to express mutual admiration for each other’s acting skills.
Fahadh Faasil's portrayal of Patrick was a hit with audiences, with his character also serving as the main source of humour in the movie.
Vettaiyan, written and directed by TJ Gnanavel, was released in cinemas on October 10. The film tackles the controversial issue of encounter killings, focusing on a police department that delivers swift justice through such extrajudicial methods. Athiyan, a celebrated cop known for killing criminals who commit heinous crimes, finds his life upended when, in a moment of clouded judgment, he kills an innocent man. This event sets him on a path of realization and transformation.
Vettaiyan also marked Amitabh Bachchan’s debut in Tamil cinema.
According to producers, Vettaiyan earned about Rs 240 crore from its worldwide ticket sales during the opening weekend. However, the film's box office performance is facing unexpected challenges due to heavy rains across the country.
