Vetrimaaran praises Kottukkaali director PS Vinothraj: 'One of the finest filmmakers in India'

PS Vinothraj may have been a novice when he made his directorial debut with Koozhangal, an independent production, but those who saw the film could instantly recognize the signs of an original filmmaker with a promising future. Among his admirers is acclaimed filmmaker Vetrimaaran.

Actor Soori recently shared a conversation with Vetrimaaran that revealed the director's deep respect and admiration for Vinothraj's filmmaking talent. "When I was shooting for Viduthalai, I received several offers. Vetrimaaran advised me to wait until the completion of Viduthalai before committing to other movies. But when I told him that Vinothraj, the director of Koozhangal, had also narrated a story to me, he immediately asked me to take it. He said, 'Vinothraj is one of the finest filmmakers in India, don't miss the opportunity to work with him,'" Soori recalled.

For over a decade, Soori was primarily known for his comedic roles. However, it was Vetrimaaran who redefined Soori's on-screen image with Viduthalai Part 1. Moving from comedic to leading roles, Soori is fast establishing himself as a bankable actor in Tamil cinema. His recent film Garudan was one of the biggest hits in the Tamil film industry this year.

Kottukkaali, Soori's upcoming film, is expected to further solidify his growing influence in the industry. The film was a favourite at several prestigious film festivals, including the Berlin International Film Festival, receiving glowing reviews from international critics. Kottukkaali, which stars Anna Ben as the female lead, revolves around the superstitious beliefs of a rural family, who engage in rituals to solve the problems of their hearts. The film is set to hit the screens on August 23.
