The Greatest of All Time
The trailer of The Greatest of All Time has stirred excitement among fans, not just for its action-packed sequences but also for its subtle nods to Thalapathy Vijay’s political ambitions. Sharp-eyed viewers may have noticed that one of the car plates in the trailer reads "CM 2026," a clear reference to Vijay's recently announced political career. Director Venkat Prabhu, who helmed the film, revealed that this and other political references were carefully included as a tribute to the star.
Venkat Prabhu clarified that the political elements in the film were his own creative choices and not demands from Vijay. "I used Premji's character to create a fun moment around a political discussion. It will be very enjoyable. But, he (Vijay) never insisted that he needed some political comments to be included in the movie. He never asked me that," Prabhu stated, dismissing any notion that the film serves as a political platform for Vijay.
Thalapathy Vijay’s decision to enter electoral politics earlier this year sent shockwaves through the Tamil film industry and his vast fan base. Unlike other Tamil stars who have ventured into politics while continuing their film careers, Vijay’s announcement was accompanied by a surprising decision to retire from acting. His move, seen as bold and unprecedented, comes at the height of his stardom, with many lauding his confidence to transition into politics as a novice.
Set to contest in the Tamil Nadu elections in 2026, Vijay’s political journey has already begun to influence his cinematic endeavours. Venkat Prabhu, acknowledging this, mentioned that he "wishfully included a few scenes around political matters as my farewell to Vijay."
The Greatest of All Time is expected to be one of Vijay’s final films before he retires from acting after fulfilling his commitments with Thalapathy 69 next year. The film is poised to dominate the box office, with its release set for this Thursday.
