Acclaimed director Mari Selvaraj, who has now turned producer for his upcoming venture Vaazhai, has unveiled the film’s trailer. Taking to his social media pages, the director-turned-producer wrote, “நான் அப்புறம் என் நிஜமும் -வாழை (I, then my reality) Trailer out now.”

The trailer of Vaazhai features a scene set in a rural backdrop where a schoolboy hesitates to go to school and shuts the door, refusing to let his mother in. It then showcases shots of the village, the townsfolk, and moments of schoolboys dancing with their schoolteacher, played by actress Nikhila Vimal. The short glimpse highlights the shattered dreams of the young boys due to societal and parental pressures. Mari Selvaraj narrates the tale in his distinctive style. Check out the trailer here!

Directed and produced by Mari Selvaraj, the upcoming children’s film stars Ponvel M, Raghul R, Kalaiyarasan, Nikhila Vimal, J Sathish Kumar, Dhivya Duraisamy, and Janaki in key roles. This film also marks Mari Selvaraj’s debut as a producer; he has bankrolled the movie alongside his wife, Divya Mari Selvaraj. The technical team includes Santhosh Narayanan, who composed the original score and soundtracks, Theni Eswar as the cinematographer, and Suriya Pradhaman handling the editing.

Vaazhai is scheduled to hit the big screens on August 23, 2024, and will compete with Soori’s Kottukkaali and Nani-starrer Saripodhaa Sanivaaram at the box office. Presented by Disney+ Hotstar, the OTT rights for the film might be acquired by the streaming platform.
Mari Selvaraj’s upcoming project
Meanwhile, the director is currently filming Bison with actor Dhruv Vikram. The sports drama features Anupama Parameswaran as the female lead opposite Dhruv Vikram, along with Rajisha Vijayan, Lal, Pasupathy, Kalaiyarasan, Hari Krishnan, Azhagam Perumal, and Aruvi Madhan in other key roles. The movie is jointly produced by Applause Entertainment and director Pa Ranjith’s home banner, Neelam Studio.
