Vaazhai OTT release date: Here's when and where to stream Mari Selvaraj’s emotional drama

    After a successful theatrical run, acclaimed filmmaker Mari Selvaraj’s latest emotional drama Vaazhai is all set to make its digital debut. Starring Ponvel M, Raghul R, Kalaiyarasan, and Nikhila Vimal, the film is a semi-autobiographical drama based on a poignant incident from Mari Selvaraj’s life. The film marks Mari Selvaraj’s fourth directorial venture.

    The OTT platform, Disney+ Hotstar, took to its official handle to announce that the Mari Selvaraj directorial will be available for streaming on the platform starting October 11, 2024. Sharing the movie poster, the platform wrote, “ஒரு உன்னதமான படைப்பு #vaazhai #Vaazhai Streaming From October 11 on Disney+ Hotstar. Streaming in Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Bengali, and Marathi.”

    What is Vaazhai all about?

    Written, directed, and produced by Mari Selvaraj himself, the film follows the tragic life story of Sivanandhan, a twelve-year-old boy who works as a plantain labourer. Upon its release, the film received overwhelming responses from audiences, who praised the filmmaker for delivering a heart-wrenching drama that conveys an important message. The film went on to not just become a critically acclaimed film, but also a box office hit, minting more than ₹40 crore against its ₹5 crore budget. The film stars Ponvel M, Raghul R, Kalaiyarasan, Nikhila Vimal, J Sathish Kumar, Dhivya Duraisamy, and Janaki in key roles. This film also marks Mari Selvaraj’s debut as a producer. On the technical front, Santhosh Narayanan composed the original score and soundtrack for the film, while Theni Eswar served as the cinematographer, and Suriya Pradhaman handled the editing.

    Recently, filmmaker Mari Selvaraj announced that he will soon be making a sequel to the emotional drama, which will delve even deeper into the story behind the first installment. He also promises the audience that the sequel will be even more hard-hitting compared to the first part.
