Vaazhai box office collection day 3: Mari Selvaraj directorial emerges as the winner, earns this much

    Mari Selvaraj’s latest film Vaazhai has been making huge waves at the Tamil Nadu box office. Despite featuring lesser-known actors in the lead roles, the emotional drama has been generating a lot of buzz, and has been witnessing profitable footfall at theatres. Starring Nikhila Vimal, Ponvel M, and Kalaiyarasan, the film centers around two young schoolboys who work as plantain laborers. Here’s how much the movie earned on day 3:

    According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Vaazhai, directed by Mari Selvaraj, opened to impressive numbers, with the film collecting approximately Rs 1.15 crore on its first day. Thanks to the positive word of mouth from celebrities and artists who praised the filmmaker during the premiere show, the film gained great momentum in the days following its release. It collected around Rs 2.5 crore on day 2, bringing its total revenue close to Rs 4 crore. The movie also enjoyed a strong Tamil occupancy rate of 84.78% and continues to receive an overwhelming response. 

    Upon its initial release, the film garnered impressive reviews and is currently one of the most profitable films, despite being an art film. In the coming days, the film is expected to continue breaking its own records at the box office.

    Recently, Indian 2 director and renowned filmmaker S Shankar spoke at length about how much he was awestruck after watching Mari Selvaraj’s semi-autobiographical film Vaazhai. Shankar revealed that the film deeply impacted him and will always stay with him. "Vaazhai is a film that leaves a deep impact. I still haven’t been able to shake off the effect the movie created. The pain of the Tharai children carrying the ‘Vaazhai’ is something you can feel. From now on, whenever I see bananas, I will remember all the actors from the film,” Shankar shared.

    Vaazhai follows the poignant life story of Sivanandhan, a twelve-year-old boy, and a plantain tree that plays a crucial role in the film. The movie is written, directed, and produced by Mari Selvaraj and stars Ponvel M, Raghul R, Kalaiyarasan, Nikhila Vimal, J Sathish Kumar, Dhivya Duraisamy, and Janaki in key roles. This film also marks Mari Selvaraj’s debut as a producer, while Santhosh Narayanan composed the original score and soundtracks. Theni Eswar serves as the cinematographer, and Suriya Pradhaman handles the editing.
