Parvathy and Urvashi’s mystery thriller Ullozhukku has emerged as a strong winner at the 2024 Kerala box office as the film continues to garner great numbers and appreciation from audiences and critics. The good news continues for the film, as it has now been selected to be featured at the prestigious Sunset Boulevard Theatre in Los Angeles during the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA). Director Christo Tomy, along with leading lady Parvathy, have landed in Los Angeles to attend the screening, which will be held on June 29.

The film, directed and written by Christo Tomy of the Netflix documentary series Curry & Cyanide: The Jolly Joseph Case, stars Parvathy and Urvashi. It is the tale of uncovering a family’s ugly secrets at a funeral.

The screenplay, penned by Christo, for which he had previously won first prize in a competition judged by Bollywood actor Aamir Khan and director Rajkumar Hirani, was praised for its intensity and gripping narrative. Sushin Shyam's haunting background score, coupled with the intense performances of the supporting cast, made the film a must-watch among movie-goers.

Kerala BO: Ullozhukku vs Kalki 2898 AD

Will Ullozhukku be able to maintain its momentum with Kalki 2898 AD's release?

While Ullozhukku got decent numbers on its opening day and has minted approximately Rs 2.42 crore so far at the box office, the film saw a decline in numbers post the release of the Telugu sci-fi spectacle Kalki 2898 AD on June 27.

The makers of Ullozhukku had recently decided to expand its distribution to other regions, including North India, and the film had its theatrical release in GCC countries on June 27. However, with Kalki 2898 AD enjoying more hype, especially due to the involvement of Malayalam stars Dulquer Salmaan and Anna Ben in the project, Ullozhukku is facing tough competition.

Nevertheless, with more shows, the Parvathy-starrer might be able to hold steady growth in the days ahead.
