After Dulquer Salmaan and Jayam Ravi exited Thug Life, the team had to cast new cast members. It has been widely speculated that actor Ashok Selvan has replaced Jayam Ravi’s character in the film. The makers have not officially announced the onboarding of Ashok Selvan though, while other actors have received official welcomes.

However, fans now speculate that his character might be a surprise in the film. Besides Ashok Selvan, Thug Life boasts an ensemble star cast, including Kamal Haasan, Silambarasan, Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, Trisha, Gautham Karthik, Abhirami, Nassar, Joju George, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Vaiyapuri, among others.

The original background score and soundtracks for the gangster drama have been composed by Mani Ratnam's frequent collaborator, AR Rahman.

Thug Life also marks the reunion of Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam after 35 years. They last worked together on the 1987 blockbuster film Nayakan.
