Thalapathy Vijay's latest movie, The Greatest of All Time, is performing better than the star's previous blockbuster, Leo, in Tamil Nadu theatres. The trade is surprised by the movie's reception among Tamil audiences, despite it garnering mixed reviews and its three-hour-long runtime sparking a lot of debate on social media.
According to reports, The GOAT is estimated to have earned over Rs 13 crore on Monday in Tamil Nadu alone. The earnings of the movie during the weekdays show the film's potential for a sustained run, leading up to strong performances during the weekends.
"What if I tell you Monday collections of #TheGreatestOfAllTime have a bright chance to surpass all other opening day collections of films released in 2024 in Tamil Nadu? Such is the trend going on. Let’s see how things go; will update tomorrow morning!" said industry tracker Rajasekar.
The producers claimed that The GOAT earned about Rs 288 crore during the four-day extended weekend and likely breached the Rs 300 crore mark at the global box office on Monday, mainly due to the box office earnings in Tamil Nadu.
Advance bookings for the movie on Tuesday are also tracking well, promising another record-breaking weekday on the cards.
Written and directed by Venkat Prabhu, The GOAT stars Vijay in multiple roles. Touted to be Vijay's second-to-last movie before he dedicates full-time to politics, it's a special film for die-hard fans of the superstar. Made at a cost of Rs 400 crore, with Rs 200 crore attributed to Vijay's salary, The GOAT is well on its way to becoming one of the biggest hits of Indian cinema this year.
