    The GOAT’s mixed reception

Although fans appreciated the quirky references and memorable cameo appearances in the Vijay-starrer, some critics felt the director overemphasized these elements, resulting in the screenplay being overshadowed. Many believe that despite strong performances and intriguing references, the plot failed to fully engage the audience, with much of the excitement coming from the film's unexpected surprises. Nonetheless, despite these shortcomings, the movie remains successful at the box office and continues to generate impressive numbers.

Earlier, director Venkat Prabhu speculated that his favorite Indian Premier League (IPL) team, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), could be a reason the film didn't perform well in the Telugu and Hindi markets. With the film featuring many references to the popular cricket team, he suggested that this might have reduced the film's appeal beyond Tamil Nadu.
