The Telugu dubbed version of the latest Tamil period drama, Thangalaan , is gaining traction in the Telugu states. In its second week, the movie, starring Chiyaan Vikram, has increased its screen count, outshining two recent Telugu releases, Double iSmart and Mr. Bachchan.

According to producers, the combined screen count of Thangalaan in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana was around 250 in its first week. In the second week, the film was allotted more than 140 additional screens, bringing the total to over 390. It's a significant achievement for the movie to compete with and prevail over the two Telugu films starring industry A-listers.

Meanwhile, AAY, a modest Telugu movie, is also seeing an increase in both screen count and box office performance due to the poor showings of Double iSmart and Mr. Bachchan. Released on the same day as these bigger films, AAY was initially overshadowed. However, thanks to positive reviews and good word of mouth, it has become a box-office success. Its total screen count in the Telugu states has grown to over 340 screens.

On the other hand, Double iSmart and Mr. Bachchan are on the verge of becoming the biggest commercial disasters in Telugu cinema this year. The producers of Mr. Bachchan, which stars Ravi Teja, made the mistake of holding paid premieres. The negative reviews from these previews affected the film's opening performance. Despite director Harish Shankar's efforts to change the narrative around the movie, Mr. Bachchan showed no signs of recovery and may end its theatrical run with less than Rs 10 crore in theatrical revenue.

Double iSmart was expected to be director Puri Jagannadh's comeback film following the failure of Liger. However, it has only added to the director's woes, as it is likely to conclude its box office run with less than Rs 12 crore in revenue share for distributors.
