Thangalaan 2024: Release date, trailer, budget, cast and everything you need to know about Vikram’s film

Vikram’s upcoming film Thangalaan is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated big releases of August 2024. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Pa Ranjith, this Tamil film is a period action drama is set during the British Raj and is about the tribal communities in the Kolar Gold Mines. Vikram, Parvathy, and Malavika Mohanan play the lead roles in the film.

Thangalaan release date

The Pa Ranjith directorial is slated for a worldwide release on August 15, 2024. The movie, set to hit the big screens this Independence Day weekend, will clash with a string of other films at the box office.

While at the Tamil box office, the film will face off with Keerthy Suresh’s Raghu Thatha and the horror thriller Demonte Colony 2, at the Telugu box office, it will be competing with the Ravi Teja-starrer Mr. Bachchan and Ram Pothineni’s Double iSmart. Although there are several other releases, Vikram’s Thangalaan has an edge and more hype compared to other releases this week.

Thangalaan plot

Set in the Kolar Gold Mines, the film focuses on the plight of tribal communities when the British took control of their land. The film explores themes of oppression within a historical context.

Pa Ranjith, known for his hard-hitting socio-political dramas, presents a gripping tale of the oppression faced by a tribal community at the hands of the British. While Vikram plays the titular role of Thangalaan, Parvathy plays his wife, Gangamma, and Malavika Mohanan plays the tribal goddess Aarati.

The digital rights of the Vikram-starrer have been acquired by Netflix for a whopping price and will be available for streaming on the OTT giant post the film's theatrical release.
