Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay's much-awaited movie, The Greatest of All Time, is set to make a grand debut in theatres worldwide next week. Amid all the excitement, producer Archana Kalpathi of AGS Entertainment has confirmed the record salary that Vijay will be drawing for his work in the movie.
Vijay is being paid an astronomical Rs 200 crore for The Greatest of All Time, making him the highest-paid actor in Tamil cinema and rivalling the pay of the biggest stars in Indian cinema. "Vijay sir's market has grown massively in Andhra, Karnataka, Kerala, North India, overseas, and Tamil Nadu," Archana told Galatta Tamil, justifying Vijay's huge payout.
Archana noted that it is because of Vijay's market potential that they were able to envision such a big project, spending an additional Rs 200 crore on production. "The total cost of the movie, including GST, is Rs 400 crore. And we are still in profit because the market is like that, and expectations are very high," she added.
Archana's comments suggest that the producers have already recovered their investments through non-theatrical revenue, including the sale of audio, satellite, streaming, and theatrical rights. Notably, the streaming rights alone have reportedly fetched more than Rs 90 crore for the producers.
Vijay, who is at the peak of his acting career and stardom, is set to put all this behind him to pursue a career in politics. Earlier, Vijay announced that he would quit acting after completing his existing commitments to dedicate himself full-time to politics. This makes The Greatest Of All Time, written and directed by Venkat Prabhu, very special for fans.
The Greatest of All Time is due in cinemas on September 5.
