A day after the streaming release of The Greatest of All Time (The GOAT), Thalapathy Vijay took to social media to mark the commercial success of the film with a striking photo. Vijay posted a picture of himself wearing a custom-made ring engraved with the word "GOAT," a symbol of his enduring stardom.
The ring, seemingly gifted by the producers of The GOAT, is believed to be a token of appreciation for Vijay’s massive contribution to the film’s box office success. Despite mixed reviews upon its release, the film has performed solidly in domestic and international markets, largely thanks to Vijay’s unmatched star power. "Thalapathy #THEGOAT!! Perfect gift for our #GreatestOfAllTime @actorvijay na!! Thanks @TSivaAmma saar!! Congratulations #Thalapathy69 team!!" tweeted director Venkat Prabhu, who helmed the action-packed film.
The GOAT cemented Vijay’s status as one of the highest-paid actors in Asia, with reports suggesting he earned a staggering Rs 200 crore for his role. His box office draw once again proved to be "critic-proof" as fans flocked to theatres despite lukewarm reviews from critics. While the film's total earnings of over Rs 450 crore fell slightly short of expectations given its Rs 400 crore production cost, it still managed to generate profits for all stakeholders, primarily driven by Vijay's star appeal.
The film, directed and written by Venkat Prabhu, revolves around Gandhi, a skilled spy whose life is torn apart when his young son goes missing in Thailand. Years later, Gandhi met his son in Russia as a member of a criminal gang. The high-octane film is packed with thrilling spy games, betrayal, and action sequences, with a touch of cricket to add a unique twist.
The GOAT made its streaming debut on Thursday, less than a month after its initial release in theatres. Vijay has also moved on to his next project, Thalapathy 69, which went on the floors on Friday.
