Thalapathy Vijay in The Greatest of All Time
Thalapathy Vijay is now basking in the success of his latest movie, The Greatest of All Time (The GOAT) . With its commercial triumph all but assured, Vijay is already moving on to his next project, temporarily titled Thalapathy 69.
Thalapathy 69 is set to be a landmark film in Vijay's career and holds special significance for his massive fan base. It is rumoured to be his final movie before he quits acting to focus on a political career. This project carries enormous expectations, and the responsibility of ensuring that Vijay’s career concludes on a high note falls on director H. Vinoth.
Vijay is also set to receive his highest salary yet for this film, cementing his status as Tamil cinema's biggest superstar. Popular industry tracker and actor Abishek Raaja has claimed that the producers will pay a staggering "Rs 275 crore + GST" to Vijay for his role in Thalapathy 69. If true, this paycheck will surpass his earnings from The GOAT.
For The GOAT, Vijay reportedly earned a massive Rs 200 crore . His increasing salary per film reflects the star's expanding market and the confidence that his films can recover the full investment, along with substantial profits, through both theatrical and non-theatrical revenue.
Reports suggest that AGS Entertainment, the producers of The GOAT, were already in profit before the film even hit theatres. The GOAT was produced at a cost of Rs 400 crore, including the salaries of the cast and crew.
Within four days of its release, The GOAT grossed over Rs 300 crore worldwide and continues to perform strongly at the box office, despite mixed reviews.
Thalapathy 69 is rumoured to be bankrolled by Vijay's close associate and manager, Jagadish Palanisamy, though an official confirmation is still awaited.
