Tamil star Suriya's latest movie Kanguva has been dominating public discourse, but for all the wrong reasons. The film faced significant outrage from Suriya's fans after the producers postponed its release. Finally, on Thursday, the producers confirmed that Kanguva will arrive in cinemas worldwide, in multiple languages, on November 14. While the film may not benefit from a major holiday or long weekend, the chosen date fulfils the producer's primary goal: a free box office window.

Producer KE Gnanavel Raja was adamant about selecting a release date free of major competition across languages. This would allow him to secure a higher number of screens in all regions, including the Hindi belt. The plan is to give Kanguva a solo release, aiming to dominate a significant percentage of big screens across the country.

This is why the producers postponed the release from October 10, after the producers of Superstar Rajinikanth's Vettaiyan also chose the same date. If released separately, both films could each secure over 1,000 screens in Tamil Nadu alone. However, a simultaneous release would split both the screen count and the audience. While this may not greatly impact Vettaiyan, it could be detrimental to Kanguva, given that it's the costliest film in Suriya's career.

The Hindi box office is also free of major competition on November 14, as two big releases, Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, are slated for Diwali. With Bobby Deol playing the main antagonist in Kanguva, the film is expected to generate significant interest among North Indian audiences.

Kanguva is being positioned to become the first Tamil movie to achieve pan-India success.

Written and directed by Siva, Kanguva is a fantasy period film starring Suriya in a dual role. His portrayal of a tribal warlord is expected to be the highlight of the movie.
