Suriya on Kanguva’s clash with Bhairathi Ranagal: 'Just like with Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, audiences will...'
Suriya expressed confidence that both Kanguva and Bhairathi Ranagal would thrive, drawing parallels to the recent box-office success of Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, which released simultaneously on Diwali and saw major box-office numbers.

Tamil superstar Suriya’s much-anticipated movie Kanguva was originally set for release on October 10. However, the date was postponed to avoid clashing with superstar Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan. This reshuffle has instead led to Kanguva’s release coinciding with the Kannada film Bhairathi Ranagal, starring Shiva Rajkumar. Considering Tamil cinema's strong following in Karnataka, especially in Bengaluru, the potential competition has raised eyebrows.
During a press conference in Bengaluru, Suriya was asked if he considered Bhairathi Ranagal less of a challenge than Vettaiyan, given that he chose to avoid clashing with the latter. Suriya, however, remained unruffled by the question, noting that there was room in the market for both movies. “Kanguva is releasing in all languages, and we are aiming for the best possible date. Every festival sees 10 or 12 films releasing, and they all do well. For example, on Diwali, Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 both earned 100 crore over the opening weekend. Why would people only choose one film and not watch the other?” he asked.
When asked why Kanguva was not released alongside Vettaiyan, Suriya explained that the delay was due to multiple factors. “The film was also not ready. The 3D version wasn’t complete, and we’re still finalizing the censor process. Vettaiyan may have been a factor, but we had several reasons to postpone,” he clarified.
Suriya went on to credit Kannada blockbusters like KGF: Chapter 2 and Kantara as inspirations for raising the bar in Tamil cinema. “KGF and Kantara have shown how creative risks can pay off. Audiences across the country have proven their willingness to appreciate films from different industries,” he noted.
Written and directed by Siva, Kanguva marks Suirya's return to the big screen after a gap of two years. Suriya has dedicated significant time and effort to promoting Kanguva across the country. Kanguva also stars Bobby Deol and Disha Patani in the lead roles. The film is due in cinemas on November 14.
