Suriya 45: A script originally written for Thalapathy Vijay?

Actor-filmmaker RJ Balaji is reportedly hard at work on his next directorial project, collaborating with his team at a serene hilltop location to fine-tune the screenplay. While the film has yet to be officially announced, industry buzz suggests that Balaji is developing a script for Tamil superstar Suriya, with the project tentatively titled Suriya 45.

The news has sparked speculation about whether Suriya 45 might be connected to a story that Balaji previously pitched to another Tamil megastar, Thalapathy Vijay. For those unaware, Balaji had revealed in an earlier interview that he had the opportunity to narrate a story to Vijay, which he and his team worked on extensively for over two months. The goal was to create a big-scale family entertainer. It was before Vijay before the star took on projects like Varisu and Leo.

Vijay was reportedly keen to begin work on the project, but Balaji requested a year to flesh out the screenplay. “I told him that if not Thalapathy 67 or 68, I will do Thalapathy 70,” Balaji recalled. However, with Vijay announcing his retirement from acting after Thalapathy 69, the project never came to fruition.

Now, industry insiders are wondering if the same story has found its way to Suriya. A seasoned industry insider recently revealed that Suriya was so impressed by Balaji’s story that he immediately gave his dates, despite several other filmmakers waiting for the star’s availability. Adding to the excitement, Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman is said to have signed on after hearing the narration, fueling anticipation for the project.

Pre-production for Suriya 45 is reportedly in full swing, and fans can expect more official updates soon.

Meanwhile, Suriya has just wrapped filming for his upcoming project with director Karthik Subbaraj, temporarily referred to as Suriya 44. The film, shot on a tight schedule, is now in post-production. While details remain scarce, Suriya 44 is said to be a period gangster drama, with the filmmakers remaining tight-lipped about further plot specifics.
