Tamil star Sivakarthikeyan’s latest movie Amaran continues its stellar run at the box office, surpassing expectations and even outshining Suriya’s much-hyped magnum opus Kanguva. The film has crossed the Rs 300 crore mark globally, marking a significant milestone as Sivakarthikeyan’s first film to achieve this feat.

Amaran has grossed over Rs 145 crore in Tamil Nadu alone, becoming one of the highest earners in the state this year. The film has also made remarkable inroads in the Telugu states, where it has grossed over ₹40 crore—an all-time high for a Sivakarthikeyan-starrer. Additionally, it has performed exceedingly well in Karnataka and Kerala, while its performance in North India has been negligible.

Despite its limited success in the Hindi-speaking belt, Amaran has more than compensated with its exceptional performance in international markets, earning over Rs 75 crore from overseas territories.

One of the driving factors behind the film’s success is Sai Pallavi’s heartfelt and powerful performance. She breathes life into the story of Major Mukund Varadarajan, a war hero, and poignantly portrays the profound loss endured by his family. Sai Pallavi’s portrayal forms the emotional core of this action drama, which chronicles the thrilling life and sacrifices of Major Mukund.

The film, directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, is bankrolled by Kamal Haasan’s Raajkamal Films International in collaboration with Sony Pictures.

Meanwhile, Suriya’s Kanguva has emerged as one of the biggest box-office disappointments in Tamil cinema history. Directed by Siva, the film was made on a massive budget exceeding Rs 300 crore. Producer KE Gnanavel Raja positioned the movie as Tamil cinema’s answer to Baahubali and expressed confidence in its ability to set new box office records. However, the film has fallen short of expectations.

While Studio Green claimed that Kanguva grossed over Rs 127 crore within its first three days, individual trade trackers estimate the film’s earnings to be more conservative, reporting just over Rs 80 crore in its first five days. In Tamil Nadu, the film’s earnings stand at a modest Rs 24 crore, a figure far below initial projections.
