Secret Invasion: War Machine actor shares an interesting detail on his role in the upcoming thriller series

The upcoming Secret Invasion series will be the first series set in the fifth phase of the MCU and the third entry in phase five.

In the series, Nick Fury returns after uncovering a plot by a rogue faction of the Skrull who want to take over the world.

The series will also see the return of James "Rhodey" Rhodes aka War Machine, in the series Rhodey has mostly given up his life as a superhero and has instead entered into politics.

In a recent interview actor Don Cheadle revealed that Rhodey's chemistry with Nick Fury isn't exactly friendly and that it was fun to play out the new dynamic.

War Machine will also play a major role in the upcoming Iron Heat series which will focus on the character of Riri Williams and her journey of taking on the mantle of Iron Man after Tony Stark.

War Machine will then be playing the lead role in the Machine Wars series, in which he will be facing off against Ultron.

From the recent trailer, it is clear that the series will be a spy thriller similar to movies like the Jason Bourne series, this approach is different from the comics, in which The Avengers took on the Skrull in an all-out war.

The Skrull are a race of shape-shifting aliens that made their MCU debut in 2019's Captain Marvel. The trailer makes it clear that the Skrull have integrated themselves into the highest levels of governments and companies worldwide.

Joining Nick Fury on his mission is G'iah(Emilia Clarke) a Skrull who wants to stop the rogue faction and save the world.

The series will consist of six episodes and be directed by Thomas Bezucha and Ali Selim and will premiere on Disney+ this June.

Secret Invasion boasts an ensemble cast of A-list actors that include Samuel L. Jackson , Ben Mendelsohn, Don Cheadle, Cobie Smulders, Martin Freeman, Olivia Colman, and Emilia Clarke .

Secret Invasion is set to stream on Disney+ on June 21, 2023.
