Telugu star Nani’s latest film Saripodhaa Sanivaaram is off to a strong start at the box office, promising a solid opening weekend. According to reports, the movie has earned over Rs 8 crore in the Telugu states, with an additional Rs 10 crore coming in from other domestic and international markets.

The film opened to an encouraging response in Karnataka, raking in over Rs 1.4 crore, and made a decent debut at the US box office with Rs 7.6 crore, according to Andhraboxoffice.com.

The opening day collections have provided much-needed relief to the producers, as the film has already earned half of its estimated theatrical value. With the global rights sold for Rs 45 crore, Saripodhaa Sanivaaram is well on its way to breaking even and entering the profit zone if it maintains this momentum through the opening weekend.

Although the opening was not as big as Nani’s biggest blockbuster Dasara, the first-day collections of Saripodhaa Sanivaaram far surpass his earlier slice-of-life film Hi Nana. This success comes as a welcome reprieve for the Telugu box office, which has been struggling due to a series of recent flops.

Theatres in the Telugu states failed to capitalize on the August 15 holiday due to the poor performance of the latest releases Double iSmart and Mr. Bachchan. Both films opened to negative reviews and failed to gain traction with audiences, leading to disastrous runs in theatres and becoming major flops for their respective cast and crew.

In contrast, the decent box office performance of Saripodhaa Sanivaaram has been a welcome relief for everyone involved in the industry. While the film has garnered mixed reviews from critics—some praising director Vivek Athreya’s clever screenplay, while others criticize its plot contrivances and predictability—the movie’s financial success offers a glimmer of hope for Telugu cinema.
