Santhosh Narayanan disowns The Andhagan Anthem: 'This is not the music I delivered'
Composer Santhosh Narayanan's recent decision to disown the music he created for the upcoming Tamil film Andhagan has sparked controversy.
Thalapathy Vijay launches The Andhagan Anthem.
Composer Santhosh Narayanan, who is now basking in the success of Kalki 2898 AD, has disowned the music he scored for the upcoming Tamil film, Andhagan. Starring Prashanth in the lead role, Andhagan is gearing up for release next month. The producers kick-started the promotions by roping in Thalapathy Vijay to launch the first song from the movie, The Andhagan Anthem.
Santhosh Narayanan is credited as the song's music director. However, in a twist, he publicly disowned the song. "For the first time in history, the audio label is also playing a blind character—method acting? FYI I don’t charge a fee to check if the actual music/lyric/arrangement/mix/master is actually mine. All the best of luck," he said while reacting to The Andhagan Anthem.
"This is not the music, lyric, arrangement, mix, and master that I delivered," he added.
The Andhagan Anthem is sung by composer Anirudh Ravichander and actor Vijay Sethupathi.
It seems the promotions of Andhagan are off to a rocky start in light of this controversy. The filmmakers have not yet reacted to Santhosh Narayanan's claims.
Santhosh Narayanan has garnered unanimous praise for scoring the latest Telugu blockbuster, Kalki 2898 AD. Initially, when the producers announced Santhosh was the composer for Kalki 2898 AD, which is one of the costliest films ever produced in India, many had reservations about his potential to handle such a massive project. Until Kalki, he had not worked on a movie of this scale and size. However, he proved all naysayers wrong by delivering a score that complemented director Nag Ashwin's ambitious visuals.
Meanwhile, Andhagan is the remake of the Hindi hit Andhadhun (2018). After languishing in production hell for a few years, the film is set to open in cinemas on August 15.
