Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani box office Day 1: Despite massive buzz, Ranveer-Alia's family drama gets an average opening

Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani has finally hit the ticket counters, however, the footfalls turned out to be average. Despite the massive hype, Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt starrer couldn’t manage to register record-breaking numbers on the opening day. As per early estimates, the film raked in a decent collection of Rs 11.50 crore on Day 1.

Though the actual figures are yet to arrive, the film witnessed an overall 21.25% occupancy in the Hindi belt as per industry tracker Sacnilk. The romantic flick is expected to score big numbers in the coming weekend given the positive reviews. Karan’s previous release Ae Dil Hai Mushkil had picked up the pace on Day 1 only, minted Rs 13.25 crore approximately. Although it’s too early to know the potential of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani at the box office, the hopes are high for the movie.

Backed by Dharma Productions, the film is about flamboyant Punjabi Rocky(Ranveer) and intellectual Bengali journalist Rani(Alia) who fall in love. The couple decides to live with each other’s families for a few months before marriage after facing family opposition. The film also has a talented supporting cast including Shabana Azmi, Jaya Bachchan, Dharmendra and Tota Roy among others. The film was released on July 28, 2023.

The Desimartini review read, “There are some movies that evoke a plethora of emotions in you while there are some which turn out to be an eye-opener. Then there are also some which tantalize the Bollywood enthusiast in you. Karan Johar's Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani does all three. This Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt starrer gives you an adrenaline rush of entertainment, and energy and makes you scream out loud that the essence of Bollywood ain't not dying anytime soon.”
