Ranveer Singh admits 83 wasn’t a profitable film; says ‘it still made around Rs 200 crore in the middle of third wave’
While Ranveer Singh starrer 83 failed to do well at the box office due to the third wave of COVID-19, it did give us a chance to relive the 1983 Cricket World Cup win.
Kabir Khan ’s sports drama 83 was undoubtedly one of the most awaited films of 2021. But due to the coronavirus pandemic, the release date was postponed many times before the film finally arrived in theatres on 24th December. Starring an ensemble star cast led by Bollywood’s livewire Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev, 83 won hearts and gave fans a chance to relive the 1983 Cricket World Cup win. But sadly it couldn’t do as well at the box office as expected due to the third wave of COVID-19 .
In a recent chat with India Today, Ranveer opened up about the same. He explained, “83 was criticised by the trade for not having made as much money as it was projected to make. I would like to establish that it still made around Rs 200 crore in the middle of the third wave which is not bad at all. That many people went to watch it inspite of the third wave spreading like wildfire across the world. It was just a case of unfortunate timing.”
The actor went on to admit, “Perhaps it wasn’t a profitable film in terms of just money, but I will tell you it is among my most loved films. There is unanimous love for this film.” This is something all members of the audience will agree upon. Well, up next Ranveer will shine on the big screen in Divyang Thakkar ’s comedy drama Jayeshbhai Jordaar as a Gujarati man who takes a stand against his orthodox family for his unborn daughter. The film will hit theatres on 13thMay.
