Ranbir Kapoor’s Shamshera predicted to face Rs. 100 crore in losses, will it at least out perform Samrat Prithviraj?
Ranbir Kapoor starrer Shamshera opened in the theatres with a lot riding on it on July 22 but the result was lukewarm personified. The movie which is made on a budget of over Rs 150 crore managed to open at only Rs 10.25 crore and now the first weekend collections have not even reached Rs 50 crore. Now, this makes us wonder whether the movie will at least manage to outperform Akshay Kumar’s Samrat Prithviraj which was also a huge box office disaster.

Ranbir Kapoor starrer Shamshera opened in the theatres with a lot riding on it on July 22 but the result was lukewarm personified. Now, this makes us wonder whether the movie will at least manage to outperform Akshay Kumar ’s Samrat Prithviraj which was also a huge box office disaster.
For the unversed, Shamshera is turning out to be the second big-budget flop of Yash Raj Films after Samrat Prithviraj. While the Ranbir Kapoor starrer is made over a budget of Rs 150 crore, Akshay Kumar’s historical drama was created on a humongous budget of Rs 200 crore. While the Karan Malhotra directorial is expected to face Rs 100 crore in losses, it will be interesting to witness whether it will manage to fare slightly better than Samrat Prithviraj.
Talking about Shamshera, the movie managed to earn only Rs 30 crore on its first weekend. Unfortunately for the film, the box office collections saw a 70% drop wherein it minted only Rs 4-5 crore according to the early estimates. This has now amounted to the total collections being only Rs 34 crore to Rs 35 crore. This is extremely meager considering the huge scale of the film.
While one is expecting Shamshera to outperform Samrat Prithviraj, the current situation looks difficult for the Ranbir Kapoor starrer. This is because, despite its poor opening, Akshay Kumar’s movie managed to earn Rs 39 crore to Rs 40 crore on its first weekend. Now only positive word of mouth or the collections picking up the pace can rescue Shamshera.
For the unversed, the lifetime collections of Samrat Prithviraj now stand at only Rs 65 crore. The equally disastrous performance of Shamshera surely spells out bad news for YRF Films. Well, let’s wait and see whether things turn out better or worse for Ranbir Kapoor’s film.
