Well, it is needless to say that the volatile Boycott Bollywood trend has deeply impacted the two big releases this week namely Aamir Khan ’s Laal Singh Chaddha and Akshay Kumar ’s Raksha Bandhan . Even after completing their first weekend today (August 15), the collections aren’t that impressive of both the movies. While Aamir’s film still hasn’t entered the Rs 50 crore mark, Akshay’s movie is still moving at an underwhelming pace.
Talking about Laal Singh Chaddha, the film earned Rs 10 crore on Sunday (August 14). Now the total collections stand at Rs 37 crore. The movie was expected to at least mint Rs 50 crore on its first weekend but it hasn’t successfully achieved that goal yet. Not only this but reportedly, the film is also one of the poorest earning movies in Aamir Khan’s film career. It had also initially got low IMDB ratings of just 3.5 and was behind Aamir’s earlier box office flops like Thugs Of Hindostan and Mela in terms of the ratings. However, now the ratings have increased to 4.9. The movie is a Hindi adaptation of Tom Hanks’ Forrest Gump and also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Mona Singh, and Naga Chaitanya in the lead roles.
Talking about Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan, the movie is moving at a snail’s pace. It went on to earn Rs 7.70 crore on Sunday. Now the total collections just stand at Rs 28 crore. The movie is doing poor business and is lagging behind Akshay’s previous box office duds like Bachchhan Paandey and Samrat Prithviraj. The movie also stars Bhumi Pednekar, Sadia Khateeb, Deepika Khanna, Smrithi Srikanth, and Sahejmeen Kaur in pivotal roles. It revolves around the social issue of dowry amidst the backdrop of a man’s love and sacrificial relationship with his four younger sisters. It will be just a matter of time that will tell if any of these films will witness any kind of improvement.
