Rajinikanth's Coolie: Not Duniya Vijay, this Kannada superstar in talks
Production for Superstar Rajinikanth's much-awaited film Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is in full swing, with casting rumours fueling anticipation.
Upendra has been tapped for Coolie.
The production of Superstar Rajinikanth's highly anticipated movie Coolie is moving ahead at a brisk pace, keeping fans and industry watchers on the edge of their seats. Despite the steady progress, the filmmakers have remained tight-lipped about the full cast, revealing only a few details so far. One confirmed casting choice is Shruti Haasan, who will be sharing the screen with Rajinikanth for the first time.
Recent reports suggest that director Lokesh Kanagaraj is considering Kannada star Upendra for a significant role in the film. This follows earlier rumours that Duniya Vijay was also in talks for a major part. Vijay himself acknowledged hearing about these discussions but clarified that he has yet to receive any formal offer from the production team.
Upendra, well-known to Tamil audiences through his previous successful films in the industry, is a big fan of Rajinikanth. If confirmed, this potential collaboration would be a much-anticipated highlight for fans of both actors.
Coolie is expected to be a high-energy action thriller centred on the theme of smuggling. The film's teaser, which was released earlier, has already set the tone with a glimpse of Rajinikanth's character storming a safe house at a port filled with smuggled gold.
This film marks the first collaboration between Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj. Initially, Lokesh was set to begin work on Kaithi 2 following the success of Leo, continuing his cinematic universe. However, after presenting a new film idea to Rajinikanth, the project quickly gained momentum, with Sun Pictures stepping in as the producer.
In a recent statement, Lokesh confirmed that Coolie will not be part of his interconnected movie universe, which includes hits like Kamal Haasan's Vikram, Thalapathy Vijay's Leo, and Karthi's Kaithi.
