Filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj has started a new trend in Tamil cinema by revealing the commercial potential of a multi-starrer. His movies often feature more than one superstar from across the film industry, scaling up their appeal to audiences worldwide. Audiences are also expecting several such surprises in his upcoming movie Coolie, which stars Superstar Rajinikanth.

Speculations have been rife about Lokesh considering Kannada actor Duniya Vijay for a key supporting role in Coolie. There seems to be some truth to this speculation, as Vijay himself confirmed that he had heard this news from reliable sources and was rooting for it to come to pass.

"I have not formally received any offer from the team. But I heard that they talked about casting me in the movie. At this stage, I don't know if that will materialize. If I get an offer, I will do it 100 percent," Vijay said in a recent interview.

Vijay also revealed that Lokesh was one of his favourite directors.

Not just Lokesh, Vijay is also a die-hard fan of Rajinikanth. Recently, he recalled an anecdote about his first meeting with the superstar. It happened nearly 20 years ago, soon after the phenomenal success of his 2006 action movie, Duniya. When Vijay received news about Rajinikanth's intention to talk to him over the phone and appreciate his performance in the movie, Vijay immediately left for Chennai and used his goodwill with Rajinikanth's friends to win a chance to meet him in person.

Vijay is now busy promoting his next movie, Beehma, which he has also directed in addition to playing the lead role. The film is due in cinemas on August 9.

In the meantime, the production of Coolie is happening in Hyderabad. The film is said to revolve around the issue of gold smuggling and also stars Shruti Haasan in a key role.
