Rajinikanth, Manju Warrier and Amitabh Bachchan in Vettaiyan
Lyca Productions on Tuesday unveiled a new character glimpse from its upcoming production Vettaiyan. The short promo video introduces Manju Warrier's character, Thara, who is the wife of Vettaiyan, played by Superstar Rajinikanth.
From the promo, it appears that Manju Warrier portrays a strong, influential woman whose agency is independent of her husband's. In one notable moment, Vettaiyan introduces Thara to an elderly character, played by none other than Amitabh Bachchan.
One of the highlights of Vettaiyan is the onscreen reunion of Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan after more than 30 years. The last movie the duo appeared in together was Hum, which was released in 1991.
There are few details about Amitabh Bachchan's character in Vettaiyan, but it’s likely he plays a high-ranking authority figure. In the film, Rajinikanth plays a cop, and the plot is said to explore the negative consequences of police highhandedness.
Manju Warrier shares the screen with Rajinikanth for the first time in this film and has already made an impression on Tamil audiences, especially with her dance performance in the song Manasilaayo. The track, the first to be released from the Vettaiyan soundtrack, quickly became a viral sensation with its catchy beats, Rajinikanth’s signature style, and Manju Warrier’s captivating presence.
Vettaiyan boasts an ensemble cast that includes Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Ritika Singh, and Dushara Vijayan. The producers have been releasing glimpses of each main character, with Dushara playing a school teacher named Saranya and Ritika Singh portraying a cop named Roopa.
Vettaiyan, written and directed by TJ Gnanavel, is gearing up for a grand release on October 10. The filmmakers have planned a grand audio launch event in Chennai on September 20, where they will also unveil the movie's first trailer.
