    Mani Ratnam and Rajinikanth delivered one of the most iconic cult classic crime dramas in 1991, titled Thalapathi, offering Tamil audiences their favorite reimagined story of Karna. Fans have long awaited a reunion of this iconic duo, and it seems like the dream of many may soon come true.

    According to the latest Kollywood reports, the legendary actor-director duo—Rajinikanth and Mani Ratnam, are set to reunite for a new project, which is reportedly going to be announced on the Tamil superstar’s birthday this year (December 12).

    Reports suggest that Mani Ratnam is planning an ambitious project that will feature none other than Superstar Rajinikanth, and the latest word is that the project is almost finalized. An official announcement is awaited.

    The iconic actor-director duo last worked together on the 1991 classic Thalapathi, which starred multiple actors including Mammootty, Arvind Swamy, Jaishankar, Amrish Puri, Srividya, Bhanupriya, Shobana, and Geetha in key roles. The film was a modern, imaginative retelling of the warrior prince Karna's character from the epic Mahabharata. The story revolves around a brave orphan who befriends a powerful gangster. Upon its release, the film garnered critical acclaim, with Rajinikanth’s performance receiving widespread praise.

    Meanwhile, Rajinikanth is gearing up for the release of his upcoming Dussehra release, Vettaiyan, directed by T.J. Gnanavel. Vettaiyan features a star-studded cast, including Rajinikanth, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Amitabh Bachchan, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, Dushara Vijayan, Kishore, Rohini, Rao Ramesh, Shaji Chen, Ramesh Thilak, Rakshan, and G.M. Sundar, among others. He will also be seen in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s gangster drama Coolie. The actor recently underwent a medical procedure and is currently resting, after which he will resume work.

    On the other hand, Mani Ratnam is currently shooting his ambitious project with Kamal Haasan and Silambarasan, titled Thug Life.
