Raayan OTT release date: Here’s when and where to watch Dhanush's gangster drama

The wait is over! After a successful theatrical run, the Dhanush-starrer gangster drama is all set to end its theatrical journey on a glorious note as it gears up to make its debut on OTT. Streaming giant Amazon Prime Video recently took to their social media handles to announce that the film will be available for streaming on the platform starting August 23, 2024. 

When and where to watch Dhanush’s Raayan

Sharing a slick poster of the film, the streaming platform Amazon Prime Video announced, “Raayan has a PURPOSE to fulfill and JUSTICE to seek. #RaayanOnPrime, Aug 23.” The film will be available for streaming in multiple languages, including Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada. 

 Directed by Dhanush, Raayan marks the 50th film in the Tamil star’s acting career and his second directorial venture after Pa Pandi. The film stars Dhanush, Sundeep Kishan, Dushara Vijayan, Kalidas Jayaram, and SJ Suryah in lead roles, as it narrates a story of vengeance and family emotions. 

Raayan’s box office success

The Dhanush-directed film achieved significant success upon its initial release and went on to become the highest-grossing film of Dhanush’s career, surpassing the box office collection of his 2018 film Vaathi. As Raayan concludes its theatrical run, it recently dethroned Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2 to emerge as the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2024, with a combined domestic and overseas box office collection of Rs 153.68 crore gross.

Upon its release, the film received overwhelming responses from viewers, who praised Dhanush for delivering an engaging and gripping action thriller. Interestingly, the standout performances were not only by Dhanush but also by the supporting cast, including Sundeep Kishan and Dushara Vijayan, whose performances resonated with audiences. AR Rahman’s compositions for the film went on to become chartbusters and were loved by Tamil audiences. 

Raayan plot and cast

The film centers around the titular character, Raayan (played by Dhanush), a cook who is actually a gangster with a hidden past. After his family is killed, Raayan embarks on a journey to avenge their deaths. Besides the lead cast, the film also stars Prakash Raj, Selvaraghavan, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, and Aparna Balamurali in key roles.
