A small part of Dhanush's latest speech at the audio launch event of his upcoming movie Raayan is now going viral on social media. It is a high-voltage speech that mixes Dhanush's personal anecdote involving two icons of Tamil cinema and politics, Superstar Rajinikanth and the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa.

"Why shouldn't I buy a house in Poes Garden? Should I be living on the streets?" asked Dhanush.

First, some context. Dhanush recently built his dream house in one of the most prestigious and expensive real estate areas in Chennai: Poes Garden. This personal achievement led to many debates on social media, with some questioning whether Dhanush deserves to be the neighbour of Superstar Rajinikanth.

Dhanush was Rajinikanth's son-in-law, having been married to Rajinikanth's oldest daughter, Aishwarya, with whom he has two sons, Yatra and Linga. Dhanush and Aishwarya ended their 18-year marriage in 2022 due to undisclosed personal reasons.

This has led to a lot of animosity towards Dhanush on social media, with him becoming a target of unfair trolling. Dhanush took the opportunity at the Raayan event to address the controversy and explain the significance of buying a house in Poes Garden.

"There is a small story behind Poes Garden. I was around 16 years old, and you know whose fan I am. So, my friend and I went to Poes Garden to look at Thalaivar's house. We asked directions from a cop, who helped us but asked us not to linger long. And we saw Thalaivar's house. I was overjoyed. While leaving Poes Garden, I saw a crowd outside a house. I asked someone there, 'Thalaivar's house is on that side, why is there a crowd in front of this house?' That person informed me that the house belonged to Jayalalithaa. One side is Rajinikanth sir's house, and the other is Jayalalithaa Amma's house. At that moment, I vowed that one day I would buy at least a small house in Poes Garden," recalled Dhanush.

"That Poes Garden house is a gift to Venkatesh Prabhu from Dhanush," he added.
