Raayan 2024: Release date, trailer, budget, cast and everything you need to know about Dhanush’s film

Dhanush’s 50th film and second directorial venture, Raayan, is all set to hit the big screens this week. Starring Dhanush, Kalidas Jayaram, Sundeep Kishan, Dussehra Vijayan, and SJ Suryah in lead roles, the upcoming gangster drama is set against the backdrop of North Madras and revolves around a cook who seeks to avenge the death of his dear ones. 

Raayan release date

 The Dhanush directorial is slated to hit the theatres on July 26, 2024. The upcoming Tamil gangster action drama will be clashing at the box office with the Malayalam film Level Cross, starring Asif Ali and Amala Paul, and the Kannada film Roopanthara, starring Raj B Shetty. However, the latter two do not have much hype in Tamil-speaking regions, hence, Raayan holds more sway among South releases this week.

The upcoming film centers around Dhanush’s character, who plays a cook disguised as a gangster with a secret past. After his family is killed, Raayan trains to avenge their murders. His quest for revenge leads him through the criminal underworld. The film also showcases his struggle to protect his family from unforeseen circumstances. Kalidas Jayaram, Sundeep Kishan, and Dussehra Vijayan play Dhanush’s siblings, while SJ Suryah plays the antagonist.

The trailer begins with Selvaraghavan's character telling a young Raayan, "The most dangerous animal in the jungle is not the lion or tiger, it's a wolf." The glimpse suggests that the film will be an action-packed revenge saga, featuring Dhanush as a gangster who locks horns with SJ Suryah's character. Dhanush plays the gritty role of a man hailing from North Madras, with SJ Suryah’s character saying, “He is such a masculine and brave guy; tell him to come here and kill me.” The intense shots from the trailer hint at a spectacular gangster actioner delivered by Dhanush.

Raayan cast and crew

Besides Dhanush, the upcoming gangster action drama also stars an ensemble cast that includes Kalidas Jayaram, Sundeep Kishan, Dussehra Vijayan, Prakash Raj, SJ Suryah, Selvaraghavan, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, and Aparna Balamurali in key roles. On the technical front, the film has an original background score and soundtrack composed by maestro AR Rahman, with cinematography handled by Om Prakash. The movie’s dance choreography is done by Prabhudeva and Bada Baskar, with editing handled by Prasanna. Peter Hein has choreographed the stunt sequences for the actioner.

Bankrolled by Sun Pictures, Dhanush's 50th film has reportedly been made on a whopping budget of Rs 100 crore.
