Prabhas and Kriti Sanon starrer Adipurush defies backlash, clocks Rs 65 crore in India on Day 2
Directed by Om Raut, the film is the adaptation of the Hindu epic Ramayana in which Prabhas plays the role of Raghava, Kriti Sanon is in the character of Janaki. Saif Ali Khan features as Lankesh, Sunny Singh as Lakshmana and Devdutta Nage as Bajrang.
Despite the criticism and mixed reviews, Prabhas starrer Adipurush has held its fort strong at the box office. After an impressive worldwide opening day collection of Rs 140 crore, the film went on to continue its winning streak at the box office. On the second day of release, the film reportedly earned Rs 37 crore at the Hindi box office and Rs 26 crore in the Telugu states.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film grossed Rs 65 crore on Day 2 of release, across all languages in India. There has been social media backlash over the portrayal of characters ever since the film was released. A section of people has also been trolling makers for ‘poor’ VFX and dialogues. However, unfazed by trolling, the film has been making moolah at the ticket counter.
Adipurush has emerged to be the fourth-highest opener in terms of worldwide collection, beating Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan (Rs 106 crores). The film stands behind SS Rajamouli’s RRR (Rs 222 crore), Baahubali 2: The Conclusion(Rs 214 crore) and KGF Chapter 2(Rs 164.5 crore). If the film’s dream run continues at the box office, it may break several other records at the box office. Prabhas has become the first Indian actor who has delivered three Rs 100 crore openers at the worldwide box office. Made on a budget of a whopping Rs 500 crore, Adipurush still has a long run to cover its cost and make profits.
Meanwhile, the DesiMartini review of Adipurush read, “Director Om Raut might have had his heart in the right place but alas, this one was a huge miss. The half-baked VFX and CGI don't even make the final battle sequence convincing coupled with the performances which lack the divinity and essence required for such magnanimous and revered characters.”
