The latest Tamil film Pogumidam Vegu Thooramillai has officially made its digital debut on Amazon Prime Video, releasing on the platform on Tuesday, more than six weeks after its theatrical premiere. It was one of the many small-budget, experimental movies that was released on August 23.

Pogumidam Vegu Thooramillai was initially released alongside two other notable films: P. S. Vinothraj's globally acclaimed rural drama Kottukkaali and Mari Selvaraj's emotionally charged Vaazhai. While Kottukkaali and Pogumidam Vegu Thooramillai vied for attention, both were overshadowed by Vaazhai, a tragic drama inspired by real events from director Mari Selvaraj's life, which garnered significant critical acclaim and audience attention.

Pogumidam Vegu Thooramillai did not have a streaming partner secured at the time of its theatrical release. Many Tamil films often manage to lock in streaming deals that ensure their arrival on OTT platforms within four weeks of hitting cinemas. However, Pogumidam Vegu Thooramillai took a bit longer to find its digital home, but it's fortunate to have landed on a major platform like Prime Video. It’s worth noting that over half of the Tamil films released theatrically last year didn’t secure streaming deals, putting them at risk of fading into obscurity after their theatrical run ends.

Directed and written by debutant Michael K Raja, Pogumidam Vegu Thooramillai seems to unfold over the course of one intense night, although the exact plot remains mysterious. The film’s trailer hints at a suspenseful and possibly supernatural story. Vemal stars as a working-class man who earns his living driving a mortuary van. His life takes a dramatic turn after an encounter with Karunas, suggesting that dark, unforeseen events await. The film’s supporting cast includes Mery Rickets, Aadukalam Naren, and Pawan.
