Not just trolls but even Ranbir & Alia found repeating names odd in Brahmastra; here’s why Ayan Mukerji still wanted it
Ayan Mukerji ’s passion project Brahmastra is out and like most Bollywood movies, it has received mixed reviews from audiences as well as critics. While the film has some amazing moments like Shah Rukh Khan’s cameo, an epic story-line and great performances along with awesome VFX work, there are also some things which have become fodder for memes. Like Isha aka Alia Bhatt taking Ranbir Kapoor ’s character Shiva’s name over and over again, and the dialogues which didn’t sit too well with fans. Well, not just trolls but even the lead pair found repeating names odd when they were shooting.
In a chat with NDTV, director Ayan explained that he has a habit of taking people's names a lot while talking. So that reflected in the script as well as the film. Ranbir chimed in to reveal, “We want to tell the audience that Alia and I would always ask Ayan that 'yaar, her name is Isha, my name is Shiva, do we have to keep saying it?' But Ayan was very particular that when someone is in love, they have to enjoy saying the name of the person they love. And I think that makes sense.”
Well, when you say it like that, it does make sense. While Alia’s performance has sadly failed to impress the audience, because they expect too much out of her after Gangubai Kathiawadi, Brahmastra has done a great job at the box office. Despite falling prey to the boycott trend on social media before release, the film has emerged as the second-highest-grossing Hindi film of 2022 and one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time. Just this morning, it entered the 200 crore club.
Alia and Ranbir will now reunite for Brahmastra 2, which will reportedly also star Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh.
