Neelavelicham: Tovino Thomas's first big release of 2023 is a box office dud

The latest adaption of the classic short by renowned author Vaikom M. Basheer, Neelavelicham starring Tovino Thomas and Rima Kallingal is a box office dud.

The movie is based on Vaikom M. Basheer's novel of the same name and focuses on a writer who arrives at an old manor that is believed to be haunted.

In 11 days the movie has only managed to gross around 3 crores making Tovnio Thomas's first movie of the year a letdown.

The reason for this could be the lackluster response from audiences and critics who praised the technical aspects of the movie but felt the script was dated and the storytelling stale.

The supporting cast includes Shine Tom Chacko, Roshan Mathew, Rima Kallingal, Rajesh Madhavan, Uma K.P., and Pramod Velliyanad.

The music for the movie is being handled by Bijibal and Rex Vijayan with Girish Gangadharan, Jimshi Khalid, and Shyju Khalid working on the cinematography.

Thankfully the actor has a few other big projects lined up for the year. The first is Nadikar Thilakam, which is directed by Jean Paul Lal and plot details about the movie are under wraps.

 We do know that Tovino will be sharing the screen with Soubin Shahir.

Then we have Ajayante Randam Moshanam a period-action movie in which Tovino will be playing three roles. The movie will be set in three different time periods - 1900, 1950, and 1990 in Kerala.

The movie marks the directorial debut of Jithin Lal, the movie is produced by Dr. Zacharia Thomas in association with Listin Stephen.

The actor will also have a cameo in Dulquer Salmaan 's gangster movie King of Kotha. While details on who or what the Minnal Murali star will be playing in the movie are a mystery, rumors are floating around that it may be something similar to Suriya's appearance as Rolex on Vikram.

Meanwhile, Tovino Thomas's next release will be the disaster movie '2018', based on the 2018 floods in Kerala.

2018 will be hitting theaters on May 5.
