Filmmaker Nag Ashwin seems to be working on an exciting new project. While you might assume it's the sequel to his latest blockbuster Kalki 2898 AD, it's not. Ashwin is set to collaborate with the iconic production house AVM for an untitled project. The production company announced on Monday that it's looking to hire assistant directors for the project in Hyderabad. "Let’s begin!" said Aruna Guhan, Creative Director of AVM Productions.

The mysterious project has sparked intrigue among movie buffs. Ashwin dedicated the last five years to making his ambitious project Kalki 2898 AD. The first part of the movie, released earlier this year, received positive reviews and emerged as the year's biggest blockbuster. It was believed that the director was busy with the pre-production work of the second part.

However, it’s safe to assume that his project with AVM is unrelated to the Kalki 2898 AD universe. So, what is it? Only time will tell.

The second part of Kalki is expected to explore Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan's character, Supreme Yaskin. Kamal appeared in only a few scenes, hinting at his character's ambition to gain mythical superpowers and achieve immortality. Yaskin rules over a dystopian world from the lone city of Kashi, having ended all wars and accumulated the world's resources for the wealthy. His search to revitalize his rotting physique is partially achieved at the end, setting the stage for an epic face-off with characters from the Mahabharata.

The filmmakers have not yet revealed the timeline for the sequel, but Kalki Part 2 is expected to hit the screens next year.

Kalki 2898 AD was mounted at a whopping cost of over Rs 600 crore and ended up earning more than Rs 1000 crore in global ticket sales. The film also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, and Deepika Padukone.
