Mona Singh on her role in Laal Singh Chaddha: ‘I am playing Laal’s mother; it is not an Aamir Khan biopic’
The makers of Laal Singh Chaddha initially received a lot of backlash for casting Mona Singh, who is 16 years younger to Aamir Khan, as his on-screen mother in the film.
When it was announced that Mona Singh will reunite with her 3 Idiots co-stars Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan in Laal Singh Chaddha , fans were quite excited. But when it was revealed that she will be seen as the mother of Aamir’s character Laal, netizens were shocked. Some even trolled the makers for this casting because Mona is 16 years younger to her on-screen son Aamir in real life and it did not make sense to a few. However, when the film released the age difference became secondary and Mona received only love for her performance.
Well, in a recent chat with India Today, Mona opened up about the negative remarks regarding her and Aamir’s age difference. She was quoted saying, “There was the whole thing going on. I didn’t want to talk about it before because I wanted people to see the movie. And I am an actor. I am not playing Aamir Khan’s mother, I am playing Laal’s mother. As Laal ages, I age in the movie.”
Mona further explained, “It is not an Aamir Khan biopic where he is 57 and I am 40 and playing a mother. That would be wrong. Honestly, it did not once cross my mind that I might be doing the wrong thing. I was so confident and sure that most people would not question the age gap once they watched the film.” The actress, just like her co-stars, is very sad that the film has fallen prey to the boycott trend. Mona doesn’t feel Aamir deserves this but was sure things will get better when Laal Singh Chaddha arrives in theatres. She believed that the story resonated with the people of our country.
Well, as always, seeing Mona on the silver screen in a new character was refreshing and we are glad she said yes to Laal Singh Chaddha.
