Mohanlal part of Rishab Shetty's Kantara 2: Fact or fake?

Rumours are swirling about Malayalam superstar Mohanlal possibly joining the cast of the highly anticipated Kannada film Kantara: Chapter 1. Written and directed by Rishab Shetty, who also stars in the lead role, the film has garnered immense interest as it continues production. Recent reports have fueled speculation that Mohanlal might portray the role of Rishab's father in the upcoming epic period drama, which blends history, folklore, and fantasy.

While fans are excited about the possibility of Mohanlal stepping into the Kantara universe, there is currently little concrete evidence to confirm the casting. Industry insiders suggest that Hombale Films, the production house behind the Kantara franchise, has signed Mohanlal for a lead role in a future project. This may have sparked the rumours about his involvement in Kantara 2.

However, some sources have dismissed the speculation as "fake," claiming that no formal discussions have taken place between Mohanlal and the producers regarding the film. Despite this, the idea of Mohanlal taking on a significant supporting role in a Kannada movie is not far-fetched.

The actor has a history of taking on cameo or supporting roles in other language films. He appeared in the 2015 Kannada film Mythri alongside the late Puneeth Rajkumar, and in the 2016 Telugu blockbuster Janatha Garage with Jr NTR. Additionally, he played a foster father to Thalapathy Vijay’s character in the 2014 Tamil hit Jilla. Given his past ventures, the rumours surrounding Kantara 2 continue to generate buzz.

It’s also worth noting that earlier this year, there were speculations about Telugu star Jr NTR playing a key role in Kantara 2, though no official confirmation surfaced months later. As of now, Mohanlal’s involvement in Kantara 2 remains unconfirmed. 

Kantara 2 will follow the events that happened years before that of Kantara. The film is expected to arrive in cinemas next year.
