Malayalam superstar Mohanlal made his first public appearance just a day after news of his illness made headlines. On Monday, he attended the meeting organised by the AMMA, the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists, the apex body of the Malayalam film industry. He is the sitting president of the AMMA.
A video of him interacting with his colleagues, including Asif Ali, is going viral on the internet. Fans seem relieved to see that Mohanlal is in better shape than the news reports and the hospital’s medical bulletin had led them to believe. "Has the fever gone?" Asif asks Mohanlal. "Yes, no fever," he responds.
It's noteworthy that on Sunday, the doctor treating Mohanlal’s viral infection issued a press note stating that the 64-year-old superstar was suffering from high-grade fever, breathing difficulties, and generalized myalgia. "He has been advised to take medication, rest for five days, and avoid crowded places," said the doctor in the statement.
The medical bulletin quickly spread across the internet, leading many to believe that Mohanlal would not be seen in public anytime soon. It’s unclear why Mohanlal chose to defy the doctor’s advice.
On the career front, Mohanlal is eagerly awaiting the release of Barroz, which is touted as his passion project. Barroz is a fantasy adventure film revolving around a 400-year-old spirit tasked with guarding Vasco da Gama's hidden treasure. Bound by a solemn oath, Barroz awaits the arrival of da Gama's true descendant to hand over the coveted wealth. The film explores the mystical journey of Barroz as he protects the treasure and eventually reveals the rightful heir.
Barroz marks Mohanlal's debut as a director and is set to hit cinemas on October 3.
Mohanlal is also shooting for his much-awaited L2: Empuraan, a sequal to the 2019 blockbuster Lucifer.
