Malayalam superstar Mohanlal is brimming with excitement about his upcoming project, Barroz, a film he believes could elevate Indian cinema on the global stage. "Barroz could become the pride of Indian cinema," Mohanlal stated confidently, highlighting the film's unique features and international appeal.

"In my life, most things happen without any plans. TK Rajeev Kumar and I have collaborated on numerous projects and shows, and we initially wanted to create a 3D play. I'm not sure if anyone outside India has done it, but it hasn't been attempted here. It's not easy, but we wanted to give it a try," Mohanlal told Kaumudy, while reflecting on the origins of the project.

One of the standout aspects of Barroz is its international cast, with actors hailing from Spain, Portugal, and Greece, among other countries. "Most of the actors are from abroad, with only a few of us, including myself, being Indian," Mohanlal noted. The film's story, which centres around a child and a ghost, is designed to be family-friendly and accessible to younger audiences.

Barroz is not just a 3D film but one that promises to be a visual and auditory treat. Mohanlal emphasized that the film was shot directly on 3D cameras, adding to its immersive quality. Additionally, the film features an animated character who shares the screen with Mohanlal, a first for Indian cinema.

Set in Goa, the story of Barroz is steeped in history and folklore. It revolves around the legend of a ghost who protects a hidden treasure. "When the Portuguese were forced to leave India, they used black magic by killing a slave. That murdered person turns into a ghost and protects the treasure until the Portuguese or their rightful kin return. I play one such ghost," Mohanlal explained. He assured fans that the film would not rely on bloodshed or violence but would instead focus on storytelling and atmosphere.

To enhance the film's sound design and create an immersive experience, Mohanlal has hired the help of international technicians. "We've put a lot of effort into the sound design of the movie, to provide an immersive experience. That's why we brought in experts with Oscar nominations to their credit to work on the movie," he said.

Mohanlal announced that Barroz will be released in theatres on October 3. Owing to the ongoing controversy in the Malayalam film industry due to the Hema Committee report revelations, he expressed his plans to postpone its release.
