Netflix on Saturday announced a new documentary series, Modern Masters. The first episode will focus on the genius of Telugu filmmaker SS Rajamouli, known for making global hits like the Baahubali series and RRR. He's also now busy with the pre-production work of an adventure drama, starring Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu in the lead roles. The project has been temporarily titled SSMB29.

The documentary is expected to reveal plenty of unseen footage involving the behind-the-scenes efforts and discussions that went into making RRR, which starred Jr NTR and Ram Charan in the lead roles.

When will Modern Masters: SS Rajamouli start streaming?

Modern Masters: SS Rajamouli will be available for streaming on Netflix on August 2. "One man. Numerous blockbusters. Endless ambition. What did it take for this legendary filmmaker to reach his peak?" wrote Netflix while confirming the streaming date for the documentary series.

The promo for the series, Modern Masters: SS Rajamouli, suggests that the documentary packs a lot of insight into the thought process behind the creative choices that the filmmaker makes. It seems to mainly focus on his experience in the US running an intense Oscar campaign last year for his previous blockbuster, RRR.

"The only thing I am a slave to is my story. Whatever needs to be done for that story to be the best possible way, I will do it," says Rajamouli in the promo.

Rajamouli is credited with redefining mainstream Indian cinema with new fantasy period dramas, Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali: The Conclusion. The phenomenal reception for Baahubali 2 in 2017 shocked everyone and showcased the true strength of India's domestic movie market. Baahubali 2 became the first Indian movie to earn more than Rs 1000 crore in record time and established a new box office benchmark.

Rajamouli solidified his status globally with RRR, which went on to win Oscars and create history.
