Meiyazhagan Teaser: Karthi and Arvind Swamy play polar-opposite cousins in this fun drama | Watch

In a surprise announcement, the makers of Karthi and Arvind Swamy’s upcoming film Meiyazhagan took to their social media handles to release the teaser for the film on the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. The makers shared the new glimpse and wrote, “Have a glimpse into the innocent world of #Meiyazhagan with #MeiyazhaganTeaser.”

The new teaser opens with Arvind Swamy’s character attending a wedding. Suddenly, Karthi’s character comes up from behind, covering his eyes, and asks him to guess who he is. While Arvind Swamy struggles to identify him, Karthi introduces himself as his cousin, or as he calls him, ‘Athaan’. Arvind Swamy seems to be playing a character who has come from the city to his village, while Karthi portrays an enthusiastic village boy, whose innocence is beautifully depicted in the teaser. Throughout the teaser, Karthi follows his 'Athaan', helping him and happily accompanying him wherever he goes. While the makers have not revealed much of the plot, the teaser promises an intriguing watch, and with 96-fame C. Prem Kumar at the helm, we can expect many twists and emotional elements in the film. 

Earlier posters showcased Karthi’s character sporting a tattoo of cricketer Dhoni’s name on his arm, which fuelled speculation about whether his character is a die-hard fan of the legendary cricketer.

 Meiyazhagan is headlined by Karthi and Arvind Swamy, and is directed and written by C. Prem Kumar. The film is touted to be a family drama and revolves around two cousins who become arch-enemies. The makers have been promoting the film through posters that exude vintage vibes, with a backdrop reminiscent of old Tamil films. Actress Sri Divya, who reportedly plays Karthi’s sister in the movie, is also seen in a rural avatar in the new stills; she is pictured next to a bull at a festival. 

Meiyazhagan is scheduled for a theatrical release on September 27, 2024.
