Meiyazhagan on OTT: When will Karthi-Aravind Swamy's family drama stream?

Director C Prem Kumar's latest drama Meiyazhagan was widely embraced by audiences in theaters and has quickly become one of the most-anticipated films in the OTT space. Starring Karthi and Arvind Swamy in the lead roles, Meiyazhagan focuses on themes of forgiveness and the simple joys of life.

The film arrived in cinemas on September 27 to glowing reviews, with critics praising it during a special preview a day before its official release. Even before its theatrical debut, the producers secured a streaming partner. Based on previous trends, Meiyazhagan is expected to premiere on Netflix by the end of October.

Typically, South Indian films licensed to Netflix have their digital releases after a four-week theatrical run, and Meiyazhagan is unlikely to be an exception. For instance, the recent Tamil blockbuster The Greatest of All Time, starring Thalapathy Vijay, premiered on Netflix less than a month after its theatrical release. Following this pattern, Meiyazhagan will likely be available for streaming by October 27.

At the box office, Meiyazhagan has performed strongly, especially given its intimate, character-driven narrative. Producers Suriya and Jyothika have been rewarded for supporting director Prem Kumar’s vision, allowing the film to remain uncompromised by commercial pressures.

Made on a modest budget, Meiyazhagan has reportedly grossed over Rs 46 crore worldwide, with over Rs 31 crore from domestic ticket sales, largely from Tamil Nadu. Before its OTT debut, the film is projected to cross the Rs 50 crore mark.

Set over the course of a single night, Meiyazhagan tells the story of two cousins reconnecting after more than two decades. Through their tender, heartwarming conversations, the film highlights the importance of understanding the past in order to shape one's identity.
