The latest Kannada action drama Martin began streaming on Tuesday. Audiences can now watch the film on Amazon Prime Video and Aha.

Starring Dhruva Sarja in the lead role, Martin is one of the few Kannada films in recent times to secure major streaming platforms for its digital release. This is a significant achievement, as many Kannada movies struggle to find buyers on OTT platforms. This lack of support from streamers has exacerbated funding challenges in the Kannada film industry. The scarcity of revenue from satellite rights and the limited income from music rights have further compounded these issues, making it difficult to fund new projects or nurture fresh talent.

Prominent voices in the industry, including Rishab Shetty, have raised concerns over the reluctance of streaming platforms to support Kannada cinema. Several new Kannada movies remain without an online platform, risking obscurity.

Martin, however, stands as an exception, despite receiving poor reviews and underperforming at the box office.

Marketed as the next big release from the Kannada film industry in the vein of KGF and Kantara, the producers of Martin launched an aggressive promotional campaign, including a pan-Indian release in multiple languages. However, the film failed to resonate with critics and audiences alike, resulting in a lacklustre box office run. Although it had a decent opening in Karnataka, Martin soon crashed and was declared a significant commercial failure.

The film is based on a story written by Arjun Sarja, Dhruva Sarja’s uncle, with screenplay and direction by AP Arjun. Set on a grand scale, Martin tells the story of an Indian prisoner locked in a high-security jail in Pakistan. Dhruva Sarja plays a double role in the film, which also features Vaibhavi Shandilya, Anveshi Jain, Sukrutha Wagle, and Achyuth Kumar in key roles.
