Mammootty to play antagonist in Vinayakan’s next? Here’s what we know

Mammootty has been basking in the success of his hit releases this year, and the actor seems to be showing no signs of slowing down, as he reportedly has another Malayalam flick in the works—and this time, he’s playing an antagonist!

Yes, you read that right. According to the latest reports, the actor will take on a negative role, with Jailer actor Vinayakan playing the lead. Reports suggest that Prithviraj and Joju George were also considered for the role, but it has now been signed by the Malayalam megastar. This film will also mark the reunion of Mammootty and Vinayakan after a long gap, with the duo previously sharing the screen in films like Big B, Daddy Cool, Best Actor, and God's Own Cletus.

The latest grapevine suggests that Mammootty will be playing a full-fledged negative role, although an official confirmation is still awaited. Reports reveal that filming is set to begin soon in September with the first schedule set to take place in Nagercoil. Mammootty is expected to join the shoot within two weeks.

The film is said to feature a large star cast and is touted to be a crime thriller drama. On the technical side, Jomon T. John will handle the cinematography, while Sushin Shyam will compose the original background score and soundtracks for the film. The project will be produced by Mammootty's home production company, Mammootty Kompany, marking its seventh production venture.

Mammootty’s other films

Meanwhile, the busy superstar is currently working on the post-production work for his much-anticipated film with director Gautham Vasudev Menon, titled Dominic and The Ladies' Purse. The first-look poster for the film was unveiled earlier, and the movie is expected to hit the big screens by the end of this year. Mammootty will also reunite with fellow star Mohanlal for director Mahesh Narayanan’s upcoming film, which will be produced by Anto Joseph Film Company. According to reports, this project will be filmed in Sri Lanka. The actor duo was last seen together in Zee5’s Malayalam anthology, Manorathangal, which is based on short stories written by MT Vasudevan Nair.
