June 2024’s biggest release, Kalki 2898 AD, has taken the world by storm. Almost all shows are selling out, indicating its overwhelming popularity. Malayalam movies released alongside the Telugu blockbuster Kalki 2898 AD - the Parvathy-starrer Ullozhukku and Anarkali Marikar’s Gaganachari– have been surprisingly minting impressive numbers at the box office.
Although the Malayalam films were expected to see a decline in numbers following the release of Kalki 2898 AD, the Mollywood movies have been able to rake in good numbers at the Kerala box office. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, Parvathy and Urvashi’s latest mystery thriller Ullozhukku has collected Rs 3.11 crore from the Malayalam Box Office since its release. The film also minted an additional Rs 8 lakh on day 13 of its release and currently stands at Rs 3.51 crore in total.
On the other hand, the latest sci-fi comedy flick Gaganachari starring Gokul Suresh and Anarkali Marikar has minted approximately Rs 1.53 crore worldwide within 12 days of its release. Both these Malayalam films were made on a modest budget but have been witnessing steady footfall in Kerala and continue to lure in audiences, thanks to their impressive performances and engaging screenplays.
Pan-India film Kalki 2898 AD stands tall and unstoppable
On the other hand, Nag Ashwin and Prabhas’ magnum opus sci-fi action-drama Kalki 2898 AD continues to dominate both Indian and international box offices, and has collected more than Rs 700 crore worldwide. The film has emerged as one of the most successful films globally and is currently the second-highest Hindi grosser of 2024. In the Kerala box office, the pan-Indian magnum opus has raked in Rs 17.3 crore.
Although the Telugu movie stands tall among other Malayalam releases, the film hasn’t significantly affected the numbers of Ullozhukku and Gaganachari.
