Actress Malavika Mohanan revealed that she was "intimidated and awkward" when she first started shooting with Tamil superstar Chiyaan Vikram for Thangalaan. She noted that Thangalaan was a very demanding job for her while praising Vikram for making this journey a little easier with his constant support and tips.
"I was so intimidated when I met him for the first time, haha. And I was also feeling so awkward about making a fool of myself doing stunt sequences with him, as it was my first time doing action. But he made me so incredibly comfortable. So, so kind and giving as a co-actor he is. I CANNOT imagine having gone through this journey without him. What a man. Only love and respect for him," revealed Malavika Mohanan.
Earlier in an interview, Malavika revealed that she had to do a lot of action sequences in the period drama, which is written and directed by Pa. Ranjith. In Thangalaan, Malavika plays a key character called Aarthi. Her character is dressed like a tribal warrior, inspired by local folklore. She is no ordinary woman; she seems to possess some supernatural powers that allow her to take on the biggest armies made of strong men.
The trailer revealed that Malavika's character has sonic powers that she unleashes with huge screams. She is almost like a legend; while many believe in her superpowers, some question her very existence in reality.
In all likelihood, Aarthi will become one of the landmark roles in Malavika's career and elevate her stature as an actor. "Four hours of hair, makeup, tattoos, costume every morning, and the endless touch-ups after that too," Malavika recalled, while talking about the efforts that went into bringing Ranjith's vision for her character to reality.
Mounted on a huge scale, Thangalaan is set against the backdrop of British India. The film is set to hit the screens on August 15.
